James Twohig, DDS
Helping people through dentistry has been my mission and passion for most of my life. I really enjoy making a difference in people’s overall health and wellbeing as we restore their teeth. There is nothing better than seeing a patient’s smile and knowing that I have been instrumental in creating that smile.
I graduated from Marquette University School of Dentistry in 1967. I was stationed at Kirtland Air Force Base for two years. Upon leaving the Air Force, I spent a year in the United States Public Health Service, and then opened my private practice in Albuquerque.
Throughout my many years of dental practice, one thing has remained constant—learning never ends. Keeping current with the latest techniques and materials allows me to provide patients with the best and latest treatment and materials. As a member of the Academy of General Dentistry, Orthodontic Study Club, and the Howard Riley Raper Study Club, I have the opportunity to collaborate with the best and brightest in the field of dentistry and stay on top of new and emerging dental technology.

Outside the Office
I grew up in Campbellsport, WI, a small town 50 miles north of Milwaukee, WI. I have lived in Albuquerque since 1967. My family and I have lived in the same neighborhood for many years and have enjoyed raising our children there.
My wife Karen and I have been married for more than 50 years. We have three daughters. Jamie and her husband Steve have two children, Daniel and Anna, and live in San Antonio, TX. Jyl and her husband Chris live in Tempe, AZ with their son Blade. Mary Rose and her husband Jeff live in Albuquerque. Karen and I also have two small dogs named Honey and Sweetie Pie.
I was a racquetball player for many years, and now my wife and I are trying pickleball. I also enjoy spending time in the garden and doing yard work. My wife and I are very active in our church and are involved with several outreach ministries. I am also in a men’s group, which meets weekly at our church on Saturday mornings.
I feel passionate that one should give back to their community. I have been in the Rio Grande Lions Club for 47 years and was recently presented with the Melvin Jones award. Through the Lions Club, we have done eye screenings for preschool children for several years. I have also volunteered with several Mission of Mercy programs and have been involved with Donated Dental program for 20 years.
